Though it probably goes without saying, if you’ve been bouncing around our website, we LOVE an adventure – particularly an adventure elopement in Bali! And what better reason to take a madcap adventure than true love? It encourages you to be a little wilder in your choices, impetuous in your decisions and take a step beyond what you’d ever considered.

Now that you’re here, the next step is … figuring out where to go to celebrate your love, which is where we come in. Bali feels like a second home to us and sharing our favourite places with our couples brings us so much joy! There really is nothing better than an Indonesian elopement in one of our personal faves.

An Adventure Elopement In Bali

It may sound cliche to call a place enchanting, but with Bali, it’s the truth. From volcanoes to jungles, waterfalls to gorgeous sunsets, and a bevvy of beautiful beaches in between there are no bad angles – which is why when it comes to elopement photography Bali is a GEM of a spot.

Beyond the natural wonder that constantly surrounds you, there’s access to amazing food (omg, the food – and so many veggie/vegan options!), hidden villas, and smaller island offshoots to explore. The list goes on and on and if we were to try to put it all into a blog, that blog would turn into an entire novel. So we’ll just focus on the big questions.

How To Plan A Bali Elopement

We’ve been lucky to spend quite a bit of time here, building relationships with local vendors, finding the best hidden spots to elope, and traversing all the tucked away spots – and what we mentioned earlier stands firm. There is no bad spot in Bali. Anywhere and everywhere is gorgeous. There are still some important things to consider when it comes to how to elope in Bali – so, let’s start there.

Bali is known as the Island of the Gods. It’s considered a true paradise, but even paradise has a rainy season. When planning your elopement, considering the kind of weather you want to aim for is crucial. When it comes to Bali there are really only two seasons. Rainy season, and peak season.

The rainy season typically kicks off in November, ends in March and sees its peak between January and February. Peak season, aka tourist season, is typically between June and September, with another uptick around the major holiday season of November and December.

Now that the weather is out of the way, we have to look at the least fun part of the process. The paperwork! That little piece of paper that seals your love in the bonds of matrimony? We definitely need to make sure you have that.

Here are the two key points:

  1. The procedure of legal marriage can vary a bit depending on whether your country has a consulate or embassy in Bali/Indonesia. It would be best to contact your country’s embassy to ensure that you have that aspect covered.
  2. You can have either a religious or a civil union in Bali, both of which are recognized as legal marriages. However, if you’re having a religious ceremony, Bali requires that both parties be of the same religion when they marry.

Best Places To Elope In Bali

As per this blog’s theme, you can’t go wrong no matter where you are, but we’ve found a few magical places that we like to visit during our Bali elopement photography adventures.

The Jatiluwih Rice Terrace

Spanning over 600 hectares, the Jatiluwih Rice Terrace is a flowing hillside of rice fields that follows the natural topography of the Batukaru mountain. You’ve never seen such lush emerald green vegetation in your life. The hillside itself is a stairway to heaven, as over the years the natural evolution of the terrain has created a pathway to the skies.

The view alone is enough of a reason for Jatiluwih Rice Terrace Plus elopement photography to be high on your life – but if you catch it at the right time when the fields are filled with water, and the sunset is starting to change the hues in the sky … moments like that are why for an elopement photographer, Bali is a dream.

Mount Batur At Sunrise

Have you ever wanted to get married in the clouds and take pictures so amazing you’d swear they were photoshopped? Welcome to Mount Batur, an active volcano that exists in the centre of two calderas, which are huge, cauldron-like holes in the Earth that naturally form after a volcanic eruption causes a magma chamber to essentially disintegrate, leaving a natural depression behind.

Sekumpul Waterfall

How can you not love a waterfall? They’re peaceful, gorgeous and are usually surrounded by an absolutely out-of-this-world landscape. Sekumpul waterfall is located in the Northern Region of Bali and is luscious and abundant with greenery making elopement photography wild, raw and absolutely stunning. The hike down to Sekumpul waterfall is rather steep and arduous, but it’s absolutely worth it for the incredible views. We’ll bring little raincoats for the cameras, just in case!

Best Places To Stay In Bali

Your accommodation is just as important as your location! You can start your morning slowly, get ready for your ceremony in a beautiful location and spend the rest of the day adventuring and immersing yourself in the culture and beauty that is Bali.

While there are many unique and serene places to stay in Bali, these are just a couple of the ones that have stood out for us.

This space provides a 360-degree panoramic view looking out over rice fields and lush foliage – with an absolutely breathtaking pond that they fill with flowers for your stay.

An all-bamboo structure, this offers views of the river and the surrounding area of Selat. You get breakfast every morning with your stay, a free scooter while you’re there, there’s in-house massages available and a pool and jacuzzi to splash around in.

A re-built 150 years old Indonesian traditional house perched on top of the cliff along Telaga Waja River, you’ll take in breathtaking views of the jungle, rice fields and valley.

Fully immerse yourself in nature’s surroundings in this secluded bamboo house overlooking rice terraces – with a free motorcycle included in your stay to do some exploring!

Guaranteed to “thrill lovers of nature and adventure”, this bamboo house comes with a personal chef, a lush garden and an oversized copper bathtub – big enough for two 🙂

Now that we’ve gotten through all that together, make sure to reach out to us on our website so we can discuss elopement photography packages for your Bali adventure!
